Friuli
Friuli Venezia Giulia is the farthest north-eastern region of Italy, at the border with Slovenia and Austria. Facing the Adriatic Sea and surrounded by tall mountains, it features a wide variety of natural landscapes. The Karst plateau is particularly impressive, consisting of wind-battered bare rock, where erosion of the soil has led to the creation of a series of grottos, caves and springs. The high mountain landscapes of the Eastern Dolomites between the Carnia area and the Julian Alps are truly unique and include many lakes, valleys and protected areas. The coast between the border with the Veneto region and Monfalcone is peppered with lagoons and a series of sandy beaches housing various tourist sites, such as the well-known Lignano Sabbiadoro. The cultural heritage of the region is as rich and varied as its natural resources, and is the result of a complex history and of the confluence of many populations in this land. This is why Friuli Venezia Giulia presents itself as a small universe where many different traditions blend together.
