Made Interreg Italia Osterreich

The project

In 2017, the Tarvisiano Consortium for Touristic Promotion, the ERSA Agency for rural development and the Municipality of Hermagor-Pressegger See gave birth to the MADE (“Malga and Alm Desired Experience”) project, funded by the Italy-Austria Interreg V-A cross-border cooperation program – with nature and culture as the key axis, for the specific purpose of protecting and valorising the local natural and cultural heritage. The main objective of the MADE project is the development of a cross-border system involving the FVG and Carinzia malghe and excursion-cycling trails in nature, with the objective of conserving the natural and cultural heritage, of strengthening a shared local identity, of expanding and increasing seasonal tourism trends, of involving and supporting local production and increasing employment, as well as that of enhancing sustainable mobility between the bordering regions. The project actively involves approximately 70 malghe, divided between the Italian and Austrian territories, and its main criteria are the potential for touristic development related to accessibility of the area, value of the landscape, availability of accommodation solutions, gastronomic offers and productions. Furthermore, the project took into consideration the position of the malghe in function of implementing connection trails between one another, involving other tourism operators such as, for example, farmhouses, refuges, non-hotel structures and tour service providers.
