Sauris-Pesarina Valley-Ovaro Ridge

The malghe in this district are connected by a high altitude trail that allows visitors to admire both the northern sides of the Tinisa–Bivera–Clapsavon ridge and the southern flanks of the Pesarine Dolomites. The many open areas in the area favour the presence of deer and other ungulates, as well as close-up sightings of the birds of prey that circle the valley. Sauris, an ancient village with inhabitations and cottages built according to the block bau technique (superimposed timber slotted together at the corners) and featuring roofs with wooden shingles, is certainly a landmark worth visiting. Famous food products from this area include IGP raw ham, speck and craft beers. In the Pesaro Valley, in Pesariis, the town of clocks where the Solari Brothers factory was founded, visitors can admire clocks and two monumental meridians representing the evolution of local industry. Pesariis is also known for Casa Bruseschi, a typical Carnic lordly residence from the '600-'700, with interiors displaying an exhibition of furniture and utensils from the time. The nearby town of Raveo houses the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Mount Castellano, built in 1619 and considered to be the site of a miraculous apparition, and the Small Church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, including the small monastery of Mount Castellano founded by Franciscan friars in 1686.
