From the Cason di Lanza Pass at a height of 1,552 m above sea level, follow the dirt road that rises with hairpin bends at the back of the casera. At a height of 1,700 m, leave the road, which continues eastwards at a high altitude, and turn left onto a path (signposted CAI Trail No. 458) which, by going uphill, leads to the Sella di Val Dolce at a height of 1,781m above sea level. A steep path (it is necessary to carry your bike by hand for a short stretch) descends into Austrian territory onto a cart track which, by going downhill, in a short time leads to the Rattendorfer Alm at a height of 1,531m. From the Casera, follow a wide, unpaved road travelling downhill to Rattendorf at a height of 605m above sea level. In the centre of the village, turn right onto the road to Tröpolach, where it joins the road to Nassfeld, which you then follow for a short distance in the direction of Hermagor. Before the bridge over the Gail River, turn right onto the cycle path along the riverbank and follow it until you cross the road from Hermagor to the Egger Alm near Möderndorf. Follow the asphalted road uphill through several hairpin bends to reach the Egger Alm plateau at a height of 1,422m above sea level and from there, continue uphill to the Dellacher Alm at a height of 1,375m. A steep forest road leads down to the wooded bottom of the Kesselwald Graben, which you follow on a gentle descent until you come to a crossroads at a height of 1,100m. Turn right onto an asphalted road crossing the Kesselwald Bach and which climbs up through the forest into the valley to the north of the Sella di Lom. After reaching Wirsthaus Starhand and crossing the Sella di Lom at 1460 m, you will soon reach the Rifugio Nordio Deffar shelter at a height of 1,406 m above sea level below.
